Despite its advantages, the B-2 isn’t immune to risk. In 2008, one of the aircraft—the “Spirit of Kansas”—crashed shortly after takeoff from an airbase in Guam. The cause was traced to moisture in the aircraft’s sensors, which gave faulty data and caused the crash. Thankfully, both crew members ejected safely. But the loss of the plane, worth an estimated $1.4 billion, was one of the most expensive aviation accidents in history. It underscored how even the most advanced systems require precision and care.
