5. Mrauk U, Myanmar – Temples in the Mist
While Bagan is Myanmar’s famous temple site, Mrauk U offers a far more mystical and lesser-known experience. Set in the Rakhine State and often shrouded in early morning mist, the site features hundreds of stone stupas scattered among hills and farmlands. Unlike Bagan, Mrauk U is still very much part of the local community, with farmers plowing fields beside ancient ruins. Getting there involves a river journey, but that only adds to the sense of discovery.
